Sony will soon be releasing a wired alternative to their Gold Wireless Headset. Keeping in theme with their trophy naming scheme this new headset will be called the PlayStation Silver Wired Headset. One can only assume an ultra high-end version is probably in the works for a Platinum model, but for now they have only announced the Silver and Gold models. I guess you could consider the small earbud headset included with the console as Bronze.
The soon to be released Silver wired model has many of the same features as the Gold version, including: 7.1 virtual surround sound, custom audio modes tailored to individual games and compatibility with a wide variety of devices. The PlayStation Silver Wired Headset will work with PS3, PS4, Vita, PC, mobile and other media devices by way of USB or 3.5mm audio cable.
The main differences between the two headsets, other than being wired, are the inclusion of a retractable mic for the Silver (the Gold Wireless Headset has a hidden, built-in mic for voice chat) and on-ear design with breathable mesh material for the ear cups (Gold uses over-ear design with pleather ear cups). The detachable faceplates for customization found on the Gold Headset also seems to be missing.

The new headset is slated for release this fall, but no specific date has been given other than Fall 2014. They are available for preorder
with a MSRP of $69.99, $30 cheaper than the MSRP of the Gold wireless model.
